Cary Aurand

Cary and her boyfriend, Brian, moved to the Big Island from Michigan in 2013. She left behind a master's degree and job in corporate taxation and decided to go in a completely different direction and see how far her love for running could take her. Turns out, it ended up taking her from Kona to Hilo as the Big Island Running Company launches its third store location.

Cary has been running since middle school but didn't get into longer distances until college. After her first marathon, Cary was hooked on 26.2 and quickly became Marathon Maniac #5308. She went on to complete her first four marathons in under a year, finishing with a marathon PR of 3:44. She is also Half Fanatic #1404, a member of Brooks Fanatics, and an ambassador for Feetures socks. Future goals include qualifying for Boston and one day conquering a 50 miler.

Cary's claim to fame is being able to say she passed Desi Davila Linden while running on the Paint Creek Trail back in Michigan. Rumor has it that Desi had stopped to tie her shoe but only Cary knows the truth!
